Hi.

We have a Word add-in (desktop only) that we use for agenda and meeting management. We are currently integrating this with SharePoint Online and note that when we direct Microsoft Word to open documents from a SharePoint document library that is configured to require check-in / check-out Word will show banners indicating that the document must be checked out or checked in at various times. We actually manage the check-out state in code, but we haven't found a way to suppress these banners in all cases.

Is this possible?

Whether Word add-in refers to Word desktop application?

Please provide some screenshots of banner to resolve the issue.

You could go to library settings -> Versioning settings -> Set "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited?" as "No". Then test again.

Yes it's a Word Desktop add-in.

The issue with changing the "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited?" to No is that then documents can then be co-authored (i.e. edited by more than one person simultaneously). This causes issues for some of our functionality hence the use of check-in / check-out functionality.

An example is below:

Okay, noted. Thanks for your feedback.

I've seen this question asked a few times on Stackoverflow and other platforms so it seems that this should be something to consider moving forward. We integrate with many document management solutions yet this is the only one where Word tries to overtly take control.

When you enable check in\check out function, the prompt bar is used to remind users of file check in\check out status.

You could go to user voice to make suggestions on check in\check out prompt bar.
