Controlling the expiration of OneDrive links

Hello,

We currently use OneDrive to share our files both internally and externally. I'm wondering if our Administrator can set the default expiry of a link to a certain timeframe, however a user could manually extend the expiration further, perhaps even up to an Administrator-set limit or in perpetuity. For example, all links could default expire within 30 days, however a user could opt to open the sharing settings and extend the validity of that specific link for 45, 60, 90 etc. days - up to an Administrator-set maximum, or if this is not possible, with no maximum.

Looking for help as to if this type of setting is possible, or any advice on creating this scenario either directly or with a workaround.

Thanks,

Vanessa

    Hi @Vanessa Gregory

The image below is the interface for Administrator to set the expiration of sharing links. As you see, it can only be a number between 1 and 730, it cannot be a timeframe.

The expiration set by users for their shared files can only be shorter than or equal to this time limit.

When the file owners initially share files, they can set an expiration that is shorter than the one set by the Administrator.

If the file owners need to extend the expiration later, they may select shared files > 3 dot > Manage access > Links > More Options > Change expiration date > Save.
