If I unsync OneDrive, delete OneDrive folder on C drive, when I resync my OneDrive again will it appear on C with files?

My computer needs repair and I have to send it in. I want to secure my data and want to remove everything off of it. If I unsync OneDrive, delete OneDrive folder on C drive, when I resync my OneDrive when my computer is returned, will all OneDrive folders/files be there or will I lose them because I deleted them from C? Received an answer on community with the answer I expected but want to confirm with a Microsoft Tech!

Hi @PamM517

Unlinking OneDrive from your computer , this action will not lose your data, your local folders are just disconnected from the cloud.

But if your data is particularly important, it is worth backing it up from local OneDrive folder (C:\Users<user name>\OneDrive) before unlinking, just in case.

Then you may delate OneDrive folder, re-link OneDrive later. After syncing, the files from OneDrive online will be synced to your computer.

Well yes it was helpful sort of but I was not wanting to back up my files on an external source which is what you said to do if my information was important. I knew I could do this but was looking to not waste time/efforts and resources. Your response tells me that perhaps you are not 100% sure that my data would be secure and retrievable on OneDrive after I un synced it.

Currently I can only say 'You won't lose files or data by unlinking OneDrive from your computer. You can always access your files by signing in to OneDrive.com' based on the Microsoft documentation.

You won't lose your files if you regularly back up your files to a USB drive and separate off line drive. The majority of average windows users have no need to send personal files to some unknown location that Microsoft calls the Cloud. Use a USB for portability and offline hard drive, that is always offline. Once your personal or work documents are not physically in your possession, you put yourself at the mercy of others.

One drive can delete important files, as it now uploads data without user permission. If data limit for the one drive account is reached, One Drive will automatically begin delegating your files to make room for more automatic backups. Keeping a physical hard copy of your data can protect you from One Drive.
