Every time I click to open one of Microsoft Office apps it won't open. No pop-up or message saying way just won't open. I previously opened it but not anymore. This is the second time this has happened to me.

Hi Harmony Schmidt, If we can’t open a specific application in Windows environment, it is either already running or corrupted or missing from the software assembly. The first thing we can try is to open Task Manager from a Task Bar in Windows, search for running tasks, locate problematic application and end the specific task. Then, reopen the application. Whether you observe either frequent or intermittent behavior of such application, the machine should be examined. If we have a minor corruption that should be corrected following a troubleshooting mentioned below.

    ·         Uninstall a program or a bundle (Microsoft Office) from the Program & features under Control Panel and from Apps under Settings. Note: Sometimes we have preinstalled versions of Microsoft Office Apps in several Windows machines, in such scenarios we are required to uninstall those applications as well.

    ·         Delete Temporary files from a location mentioned below in Windows. C:\Users_username_\AppData\Local\Temp The ‘username’ highlighted above is the username assigned to your User Account in Windows, which can be identified if we open a location in file explorer i.e. C:\Users

    ·         Run ‘Disk Cleanup’ and clean all parameters listed under it.

    ·         Open ‘Command Prompt’ by running it as an Administrator and type ‘sfc /scannow’ and hit Enter.

    ·         After completing the SFC scan, perform a Check Disk scan under the same Command Prompt window. Type ‘CHKDSK /f’ and Hit Enter and then it will prompt for ‘Y/N’ for proceeding with the same operation. Type ‘Y’ and hit Enter. Restart the machine, it may ask you to press any key to continue or to skip the scan, please ignore the prompt and let the machine go under repair.

    ·         After the machine is restarted, reinstall Microsoft Office and test the application.

If you still face an issue with the same application, it is advised to contact Microsoft Support using a link mentioned below.

This just started happening to me, as of yesterday (6/13/2024). I am running Windows 11 23H2, Build 22631.3593. I don't have third party antivirus software installed and am just running the built-in Defender code. Among everything else I've got installed, I use Crystal Reports 2016. Yesterday morning I thought to upgrade to Crystal Reports 2020, which is when the office apps (not Outlook or Teams, but those are kinda sorta separate, right?) stopped opening with Exception Code 0xc0000005.

I have done nothing but troubleshoot since then, culminating in a full flush and reinstall of Windows 11 this morning. I had Windows running and installed Office (64bit) and of course the applications worked at that point. After that, I installed a few programs and now the Office applications won't start again. So I uninstalled everything I installed after I knew the apps to work, but the Office applications still won't start. Clearly, something I installed broke the Office applications, but nothing I installed should have anything to do with Office. I have a couple more things to try, but this is DEFINITELY a mystery.

I have this issue as well. Tried uninstalling and installing Office 365 yesterday but it didn't help. I didn't install anything new either (that I'm aware of)

You Can Perform an Online Repair:

    • Open Control Panel.
    • Go to Programs and Features.
    • Click on Microsoft Office in the list of installed applications.
    • At the top, click ‘Change’.
    • On the resulting dialog, click ‘Repair’ and choose the Online Repair option. It is a comprehensive fix that should resolve any issues with your Office installation.
