Dear Experts,

I'm seeking assistance with aspects of Active Directory (AD) management and troubleshooting. Specifically, I am encountering a error that the files are in use and cannot be change in the Netlogon folder.

When attempting to modify files within the Netlogon folder, I receive an error message stating that the files are in use and cannot be changed at this time. We primarily use the Netlogon folder to store the Active Directory wallpaper image, which may change periodically. However, when attempting to modify or change image files within the Netlogon folder, we encounter this error.

Therefore, I would like to understand the following:

  1. Why does this error occur, and how can it be resolved?
  2. Could this issue have any impact on functionality?
  3. What are the best practices for managing the Netlogon folder?

Your expertise in addressing these questions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Dipto Adhikary,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Here are the answers for your references.

1.Why does this error occur, and how can it be resolved?

A1: How did you change wallpaper image?
Did you remove the old one and add a new one?
Or you change the name of wallpaper image?

If you put word or excel file into Netlogon folder, can you change it successfully or have the same error?

If you put wallpaper image into one new created shared folder, can you change it successfully or have the same error?

If you can change wallpaper image when in non-working time.

2.Could this issue have any impact on functionality?

A2: I think there is no impact on functionality.

3.What are the best practices for managing the Netlogon folder?

A3: Usually, I will put the wallpaper image into one new created shared folder.

Or put script file into the GPO GUID path, such as:

    \a.com\SYSVOL\a.com\Policies{3339DBCC-97D1-4562-8808-8CC026DA343D}\Machine\Scripts\Shutdown

    \a.com\SYSVOL\a.com\Policies{3339DBCC-97D1-4562-8808-8CC026DA343D}\Machine\Scripts\Startup

    \a.com\SYSVOL\a.com\Policies{3339DBCC-97D1-4562-8808-8CC026DA343D}\User\Scripts\Logoff

    \a.com\SYSVOL\a.com\Policies{3339DBCC-97D1-4562-8808-8CC026DA343D}\User\Scripts\Logon

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou
