Hi Team,

We have around 300 users who were recently migrated/synced to AAD recently. We have newly created Azure file sync on Azure with 2 sync servers and around 10-15 file share VMs registered to the Azure File Sync along with the shared drives/folders.

These users are able to access all services except for the Azure file shares. No error is showing up. However, the users are unable to access the file shares. Is there anyway that we could identify what is the issue causing them not to access the shared drives.

We as administrators of all our subscriptions, we are able to access the shared drives/folders/files. However, not the users.

We have ensured the port 445 is opened and have SMB 3.0 protocol enabled on all client desktops/laptops. We even checked our firewalls/Network/VPN all seems to be fine.

What could be the issue here?
How do we identify the issue?

Regards,
Girish

    @Girish Prajwal
    It sounds like you are using on-premises AD DS authentication which is synced to Azure AD, please correct me if I am wrong here. If so the users may not have a role assigned to them. Share-level permissions must be assigned to the Azure AD identity representing the same user or group in your AD DS to support AD DS authentication to your Azure file share.

    When users attempt to mount the drive what error are they getting? If you have a specific error you might get some resolution on our troubleshooting page. I also recommend running the AzFileDiagnostics script for Windows to look for common issues.

    Hope this helps. If you are still having issues please let me know.
