Slow Upload speeds on Always On VPN (IKEv2 connections only)

We are experiencing slow upload speeds on our Always On VPN solution. We are using IKEv2 connections for both the Device and the User tunnels.

Download speeds are not bad, but the upload speeds, both to internet and internal services, are abysmal. Internet connection is going through on-premises Secure Web Gateway solution.

Device tunnel is split tunnel with access only to domain controllers, while the user tunnel is a forced tunnel due to the on-premises secure web gateway.

It's especially bad if a mobile phone’s 5G connection is used to make the VPN connection, by using the mobile phone as a Wifi hotspot for the VPN client.

This is a known issue outlined here.

If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest updating device drivers and firmware for all of your network interfaces.

    Hope that helps!

    Hello,

Firstly, I suggest that you could type "winver" in search bar to chekc the system OS version. Make sure which security update number has been installed. Then check for update if any new security update could be found and installed to update OS version. Then test again.

There could be several reasons for slow upload speeds on your Always On VPN solution. Here are a few things to check and consider:

Review the configuration of your Secure Web Gateway solution. Make sure it is not causing unnecessary bottlenecks or introducing latency that could impact the upload speeds.

Consider implementing QoS settings to prioritize VPN traffic over other network traffic. This can help ensure that VPN traffic receives sufficient bandwidth and reduces the impact of other applications or devices on overall performance.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
