It's possible you have an older model version. If I create a model with the older compat level, I see those options that you see above. If I create a model with the new compat level (you can change the default in Tools > Options > Tabular Model Designer) or on your existing project, you get the modern data experience (the one that looks like Power BI) for connections instead.

Thanks Greg Low Hi Aravind K Pachaiyappan As Greg pointed out, the issue you are experiencing is due to compatibility level. it seems like you are using Compatibility level 1200. I was able to repro the issue from my end. When I choose the compatibility level - 1200, I see the same options that you see. But when I use the compatability level 1400 or 1500 or 1600, I see the ADLS connection. With compatibility level -1200: With compatibility level -1400 or above I hope this helps.

Hello Aravind K Pachaiyappan,

It seems like you are trying to create a tabular project using SQL Server Analysis Services( not Azure Analysis Services).

Azure Data lake blob storage is not a supported data source for SQL Server Analysis Services.

Please see the below document which has the list of supported data sources for SQL analysis services.

Hi , I am creating the Tabular model from Visual Studio 2022 (latest version) & the connection is to Azure - which means its the Azure Analysis services but the model is being created in Visual studio like how we usually do - attaching the screenshot of the AAS below for reference:
Please advice further & appreciate your help.

What is your Visual studio version?

I am using "Version 17.10.1" and not able to see blob storage resource. If you are using the same version, can you please try with a different version?

@Bhargava-MSFT Yes I'm using the exact same version of Visual studio "Version 17.10.1" , but aren't we supposed to use this version only which is the latest. Not sure if this is a bug from Microsoft Visual studio (If so, please help me understand) & also advise which version would be suitable for this (also tried with the previous version of 17.10.1 & it did not work.

As Greg pointed out, the issue you are experiencing is due to compatibility level.
it seems like you are using Compatibility level 1200.

I was able to repro the issue from my end. When I choose the compatibility level - 1200, I see the same options that you see.

But when I use the compatability level 1400 or 1500 or 1600, I see the ADLS connection.

With compatibility level -1200:

With compatibility level -1400 or above

@Bhargava-MSFT Greg Low I thank both of you for taking the time to reply to my queries.

So for some reason I'm not able to see Azure from 1500 Compatibility level but when I create a model with 1600 - I was able to see Azure & the other options

One last query - Do you think we can extract the data directly from ADLS Gen2 (Gold layer views) instead of using the middle-man (Azure Synapse-SQL DW) as its costing us extra as we don't use SQL DW except for storing & pushing the data to AAS. This would help me a lot!
