.NET MAUI Google maps return an error when following the detailed guide to setup.

I have created an new .Net Maui 8.0 application. From there I have faithfully followed the setup at "https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/maui/user-interface/controls/map?view=net-maui-8.0#setup"

After every step I have built the project with no errors encountered, until I add the line

<meta-data android:name="com.google.android.gms.version" android:value="@integer/google_play_services_version" />

to within the <application> element of AndroidManifest.xml.

When I build after this I get the following errors:-

Severity Code Description Project File Line Suppression State Details Error (active) APT2067 failed processing manifest. MapsTest (net8.0-android) C:\Program Files\dotnet\packs\Microsoft.Android.Sdk.Windows\34.0.95\tools\Xamarin.Android.Aapt2.targets 214

Severity Code Description Project File Line Suppression State Details Error (active) APT2260 resource integer/google_play_services_version (aka com.companyname.mapstest:integer/google_play_services_version) not found.

This error is likely caused by an issue with the AndroidManifest.xml file or an Android manifest generation attribute in a source code file. MapsTest (net8.0-android) C:\Users***\source\repos\MapsTest\MapsTest\Platforms\Android\AndroidManifest.xml 1*

After this I have tried adding the Xamarin. GooglePlayServices. Base NuGet package. then rebuilt. However, I now get lots more errors.

    Hello,

    This is caused by installing the wrong NugetPackage.

    To use the Map control in MAUI, you need to install Microsoft.Maui.Controls.Maps instead of GooglePlayServices. base.

    The .NET Multi-platform App UI (.NET MAUI) Map control is a cross-platform view for displaying and annotating maps. The Map control uses the native map control on each platform, and is provided by the Microsoft.Maui.Controls.Maps NuGet package.

    Guangyu Bai - MSFT on StackOverflow offered the following solution which works

    You can add the package Xamarin.AndroidX.Fragment.Ktx to solve the issue.
