I have a windows 2012 R2 server. It does hypervisor and is running just a few machines. I have been trying to get updates on this machine for well over a year, but windows update gives me the above error.

Any solutions that work ?

I have;

  1. no firewall
  2. no antivirus
  3. I can 'See" the update server from the command line
  4. Rolled back some updates that have been suggested. No good results
  5. Killed update service, restored.
  6. Re-installed windows update
  7. removed update cache
  8. tried other users
  9. applied (Tryed to apply) patch suggested. (Does not apply to windows 2012 r2)

Anybody have any success ?

    Hi Robin Ganderton,

Since this error may be related to the network, you can try the following steps to fix it:

    Reset the network

Search for CMD, open and search for Command Prompt (run in administrator mode)

Enter the following commands in the pop-up command box in sequence (enter the following after running each line)

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /registerdns

    resetting netsh int IP

    Netsh Winsock Reset

    WinHTTP NETSH Reset Proxy

Restart your computer to see if the problem can be resolved.

If the issue still insists, update the Windows Update Agent to the latest version. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/deployment/update-windows-update-agent

    Best regards

    Zunhui
