Every time I open a document or start a new document this pop up comes up.

everytime i open a document or start a new one that pops up. I can not able to open old documents and word looks different on my computer now.

What are the formats of your "old documents"?

As Akbar Karimi said, could you please share us with a screenshot of pop-up?

I suggest you go to Word, click File > Accounts > Product Information, check the Office apps version name and version number.

Then click "Open" and browse one document to have a check. Please ensure Word is the default app for your documents.
