Will Postgres flexible server upgrade support new features

Hi,

We have to install private endpoint to connect from ADF to Postgres flexible server. The question is the server was created in 2023 and the support for private endpoint for it only exists since Feb 2024. I wonder if an upgrade of the server will get us the feature of private endpoint? As we don't want to re-create the server.

If not, do you guys know any solutions for that? Thanks.

Hi @Wang, Yue Welcome to Microsoft Q&A thanks for posting your question.

Is it a Major Version upgrade? can you please confirm. and I think It should not require any re-build, it should work fine. However, you can connect vnet injected Postgres to ADF why is the Private Link Endpoint needed?

Also, I recommended try with PITR (to test upgrade) before running any upgrade.

Thanks for the response, we are trying to access Postgres from ADF, and found private endpoint is the best choice for us.

To the first question, yes, we can do a major version upgrade, can you confirm it will solve the issue? Thanks.

@Wang, Yue Could you please share any additional context on why you believe private endpoints are the best choice? From a networking perspective, both VNet injection and private endpoints offer internal IPs, so I'd like to better understand what specific advantages you see in private endpoints over VNet injection. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated
