Hello,

We are currently facing the situation where the Remote Desktop Client app is not updating using the built-in update mechanism and I would like to understand what internet address is the software trying to connect to in order to download the update files. The installation is done through MECM using the MSI installer.

I need this information to check if it's a network or security limitation on our end.

Thank you.

    Hello Sebi,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

1.Please click Retry button and check if it helps.

I am also using Remote Desktop Client, every time I update it, I need to click Retry button, then it will install the latest version.

2.Ensure your machine is connected to Internet and your company network.

3.If it does not work above, and you want to determine the internet address that the Remote Desktop Client app is trying to connect to for updates, you can use a network monitoring tool to capture and analyze the traffic. Here's a general process you can follow:

    1.Install a Network Monitoring Tool:

Popular choices include Wireshark or Microsoft Network Monitor.

Download and install one of these tools on the machine where the Remote Desktop Client app is installed.

    2.Start the Network Capture:

Open the network monitoring tool and start a new capture session.

Ensure that the tool is set to capture traffic from all network adapters.

    3.Initiate the Update Process:

While the network capture is running, manually trigger the update process in the Remote Desktop Client app.

    4.Stop the Network Capture:

After the update process either fails or completes, stop the network capture in the monitoring tool. 5.Analyze the Traffic:

Look for HTTP or HTTPS requests made by the Remote Desktop Client app during the update process.

Identify the specific domains or IP addresses that the app is trying to reach.

    6.Check Network/Security Settings:

Compare the identified addresses with your network and security settings to see if there are any blocks or restrictions.

This approach will help you identify the specific internet address or addresses involved in the update process. Depending on your findings, you may need to whitelist these addresses in your network or security policies to allow the updates to go through.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou

    Hi Daisy,

Thank you for your answer, but it doesn't answer my question.

    1. Is not happening only to me, it's a widespread issue in our company.
    2. The Retry button doesn't do anything.
    3. Didn't had any luck with the Networks team in monitoring the network capture, so I installed Wireshark myself and run it, but don't know exactly what to look for, as there is a lot of traffic happening.

So, coming back to my initial question: "what internet address is the software trying to connect to in order to download the update files".

I would like a straight to the point answer, not a template used for general answers.

    Thank you.
