Cannot print using Remote desktop connection

Printing when using remote desktop has always worked until I upgraded to Windows 7 and added Norton.  The remote computer is running XP, and I also added Norton to that computer. Now, when I print (on the remote desktop) I get no errors, just that nothing prints on my local printer. When I look at the print queue (on the remote desktop) I see the file, but the status is: "Error - Printing".

Hi Grusha,

  1. What is the type of printer you are using?
  2. What is the complete error message you recieve?
  3. Which port is the printer connected to?

Method 1

There is a possibility that Norton may be blocking the printing process I would suggest that you disable Norton on the both the computers and check if it works.

**Important:**Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2

Verify if you have allowed printer access in the remote desktop.

a)   Open Remote Desktop Connection by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking  Accessories, and then clicking Remote Desktop Connection.

b)   Click Options, and then click the  Local Resources tab.

c)    Under  Local devices and resources, select the  Printers check box.

d)   Click Connect to start the session.

Make sure that you select your printer in the Print dialog box each time you print.

If you still face issues with the printing provide us the complete error message by clicking on the Error - Printing message.

Hope this helps!
