Azure RI - Can i create multiple VMs Under Same RI contract

Question

Hi All

I am having a RI (Monthly Option) for One of the VMs (Say DS14_V2), which is reserved for 3 Years, and due to our application upgradation, we need to upgrade the OS and also other components installed on the VM, as its a production environment can we create a similar VM and install all the components including the new OS and then turn off/delete the the old RI Which is running..
The Question here is once I switch off will the new VM will be under RI??

@Sachin Reg your Q: Currently there is going to be a price increase across the board from 1st Feb so will the pricing remain same of the RI which is in current Contract Price?
Existing RIs don’t change. Price is locked for the term. New RI purchases get new price.

Hi,
RI is not purchased for specific VM resource. Instead, you purchase RI and assign it to subscription(s) or resource group. When the RI find matching parameters for the resource the usage is applied to that resource. Let's assume that you have purchased RI and you have assigned it to resource group. In that resource group you have a VM for which the RI applies. If you Create another VM in same region and same SKU and delete the other VM the RI will start to apply to the new VM without you doing anything.
