services.msc problem

When I opened services.msc (because of this problem:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983276) the situation was like this:

You can see all Microsoft Services lost its description. Error code 2 gives clue of "file not found". So I opened regedit and searched for file location. I saw this:

So I navigated to %systemroot%\system32 and found that file was there. Currently running sfc scan. Will post if it completes. Can someone describe this problem?

Also, I also have unrelated (I think) problem:

My Twitter & Khan Academy Windows Store app shows no internet connection. All other apps (both Microsoft apps & third party apps) are working. I ran Apps Troubleshooter (from http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/AppsDiagnostic.diagcab). It also said internet connection no found and asked to run its troubleshooter, ran it and it said "Troubleshooter can't identify the problem" (its not traditional message of no problems but sign of unknown problem). Apps troubleshooter ended up with "Internet connection not found      Not fixed".

I was busy is many other works so I now got time to work on my PC. Actually, I ran AMD cleanup tool made for Windows 7 on Windows 8 which caused many many problems including this one. Only option I found was to refresh and I did it. Now everything is working fine. And the unrelated problem of Twitter app is also solved.

    Hi Prashant,

What are the recent changes that you have made to the computer prior to this issue?

This seems like there are some corruption in the operating system. This might also happen, if there are some serious conflicts in the computer. I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if that resolves the issue.

Method 1: Perform a Clean Boot and find out which application/service is causing this issue.

A clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts and to determine what is causing the problem. Perform a clean boot on the computer by following the steps given in the link:

Follow all the steps given in this link and try to figure out the application or service causing this issue. Please note that performing a clean boot does not fix the original issue. It just helps us in understanding the cause of the issue.

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, refer to the article “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” for Windows 8, given under the section “More Information” to reset the computer to start as usual from the above link.

If the issue persists, then you may have to perform a refresh of the computer

    Method 2: Refresh the Computer

To perform a refresh, you may refer to this link:

***Important:***The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed. Windows puts a list of the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

    Hope this helps.
