Hi Nick, we have the same issue. Did you find a solution?
Cannot open any office files from my onedrive, error message "unreadable content"
When I try to open any office file from my one drive I get an error message.
Error message (word): Word found unreadable content in "xxxx.docx". Do you want to recover the contents of this document? If you trust the source of this document, click Yes
Click Yes
Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions.
* Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
* Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space.
* Open the file with the Text Recovery converter.
Error message (excel): Excel cannot open the file ’yyyy.xlsx’ because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.
This happened after I transferred my documents from my old mac to new mac. However the onedrive is all stored online so not sure why this is relevant or would cause an issue. I can open office files from my documents with no problem. I have previously used onedrive with office on the same mac with no issues.

2022-08-03T14:32:01.243+00:00 I just had a Mac user with the same issue. I had her right click the problem file (at the finder level) and choose always keep on this device - it download from OneDrive and then she was able to open it without errors.

OneDrive is unreliable.
Microsft don't care.
All they want is more money from us rather than sorting out the problems we've already paid them to sort out.
Get a pen and paper.
