Microsoft Flight Simulator X

I bought this game ages ago, and yes it is of course the boxed version which shows how long ago it was. I still have all the original contents in box as well as the key to activate it. However, my current computer doesn't contain a cd/dvd drive and I do not want to buy nor install one or have to go do it externally. I was wondering if there is an alternative I could pursue? Such as give the key to an employee and be granted the access to my game or something without have to go through all the excess hassle.

Any help or guidance on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Esasias

    Hi Esasias,

Could you explain further your thinking about giving your FSX Product Key to an employee.......?   Do you anticipate that this employee will install FSX on his computer and you will either go to his home or work pod to fly or maybe to try to remotely connect to his computer (which I doubt would be possible, even with a cross-over cable on a LAN Network)?

Could you give more clarification on this?

    Chris

    Hi!

Think that at such a  IT retailer like Amazon, for example, you should be able to find a DVD reader at a low price. Thence just plug it in a USB port of your PC and you should be done

From there, the first thing to care about to ease any hurdle of FSX DVD install is to clean the said DVDs. That helps

    Hi Esasias,

Thanks for the clarification and as BossDweeb has indicated, that your Product Key applies only to MSFSX and cannot be transferred or used to activate on Steam.   As well, there is no Digital version of FSX.   The only product that closely resembles what you are requesting requires a purchase:  i.e. FSX-Steam Edition (which is FSX Deluxe with the Acceleration Pack).   At the moment, selling for about USD 25, though it does go on special from time to time.   This is only available in download format and requires no activation (except for the Steam registration) and can be re-downloaded again and again (or, saved on a thumb drive) if your version is corrupted in some way.   There will additional purchases for extra aircraft, scenery, etc that are not part of the FSX Deluxe/Acceleration release.

Of course, if you are wanting to purchase another Flt. Sim, then Prepar3d and X-Plane are extremely good productions.

    https://www.prepar3d.com/    (USD 60)

    https://www.x-plane.com/    (USD 60)

Or, if you're patient and have a fast computer (both CPU and Graphics card), then Microsoft's New Simulator is due for release later this year.   Though limited details are available at this time.     https://www.flightsimulator.com/

Anyway, the above info is there for your consideration.

You could try having your DVDs copied onto a USB drive and then try and download it onto your hard drive.   I don't think you will have success if you took a copy of FSX after it has been installed, because of Activation and Registry issues.  But worth a try.

You cannot exchange the key for this game with any online game retailer including MS.

What you could do if you have access to another machine, is install the game on that machine and copy it over to your machine.

Most games of this vintage don't use online activation so the key that came with your disc will work, and

while the game should run after being copied there is no guarantee. Some do and some don't

(depends of if the game launching is dependant on a Registry key that installed with the game), but...

I don't know for sure if this affects FSX, but with Win10 MS introduced a so called security feature that prevents disc based

games that use SafeDisk copy protection (pretty much all games published by MS) from launching.

More details on DRM Blocking in my post at  ---this thread---

The only way you can run SafeDisk games is to use a noCD fix\hack. You can finde these and patches on a few of the

flight sim sites, or at  -  flight-simulator-x .

    Hi Chris,

Yes I can provide more clarification on this, my apologies for the confusion. What I meant was I have the boxed version of FSX with the key and I want to activate it on steam to play it. But, steam won't accept the key obviously cause it is a Microsoft key. But, I do not have the cd/dvd drive to install the game on my computer using the disks. So I was wondering if there was a way I could simply verify the key with an employee to possibly either provide me with a digital version of it for me to install or some method in which I could get the game to go into steam without purchasing the steam edition since I already own the game. I know it is possibly to have non steam games imported into steam to be played.

I apologize I am not great at communicating this issue. Basically, is there a way to download the game without using the disks, or some means of me to get it installed given I have the key.
