Xbox 360 wireless adapter controller driver issues

Question

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some help into my problem. I'm currently running windows 10, all updates are up to date, but when I try to install the drivers for the wireless adapter via the device manager drivers, it gives me a message saying the drivers have been installed but its always as a unknown device? I dont know what else to do, I've reinstalled windows, have changed usb ports, tried to download drivers via the windows xbox page, and nothing seems to be working!

Well, I'll be.  I google windows version 2004 and wireless 360 adapter and found a youtuber that had already put out a fix:

It seemed to work without a hitch, but I did it remotely and won't know until I get home (but the device is recognized now)

Basically, it looks like MS took out support for the third party adapter (but you can edit the Driver ini file and bring it back)

I found this yesterday too, this works. Be sure to switch out of test mode after you've installed the driver and confirmed it's working. 

Long story short, like you said, Microsoft removed the hardware ID for the Chinese made model (0291) and only left the legitimate model (0719). You won't be seeing a hotfix from Microsoft for this, so modifying the driver is going to be the way.

microsoft removed third party wireless receiver support in windows 10 2004 (PID for the original ones are 0719 while the third party ones are 0291), here's a workaround:

this will require you to enter test mode which sucks since some games won't boot up in test mode, im not sure why the incompetent higher-ups in MS decided to do this, I would reccomend you to just not update windows on a gaming PC and store your important files on a seperate PC/laptop since every update usually breaks a DRM or something.

I understand the frustration of Windows 10 behaving like this especially after you have spent time on trying to resolve this issue already.

I will need to try and investigate this issue further for you.

I am going to release this question so that other experts can maybe offer suggestions as I would like to see this issue resolved for you as soon as possible.

This issue has arisen after the Windows 10 update version 2004. It worked fine previously on 1909.  This is why this issue has popped up in the past week or two. 

Are you able to escalate to isolate the issue within the update?

Is that from the Xbox as well?
Does the controller work on Xbox or have you only The controller?
