Remote sound really quiet even though volume 100%

About a month ago (maybe more) i noticed that the sound when connected to my remote computer is really quiet (I connect from my home PC (Windows 8.1) via RD Gateway into my work PC (Windows 10).

The sound on my home PC is fine, (perfectly loud enough, with volume set to 54/100) remote volume is set to 100/100, however the sound is very quiet (to the point where i can sometimes not hear people on Teams calls).
The sound on the remote PC used to be fine, and seemingly changed overnight without any obvious changes at either end.
Both PC's (home and remote) have been rebooted several times which hasn't made any difference.
If i turn the volume up to 100/100 on my home PC, then this does increase the remote volume slightly, but it's still not very loud (my home PC at this point is almost ear-splittingly loud at this volume)

I have played around with all of the sound settings i can see on both home and remote PCs, but nothing seems to increase the remote volume back to normal levels..
