Microsoft Excel 2010 Hyperlink Function Opens the Wrong File (Correct Location, Correct File Type, Almost The Correct File)

Dear Support in the Community,

I have just recently started to run into problems using Hyperlinks in an Excel Spreadsheet.

I am using the HYPERLINK function, as example below:

=HYPERLINK("P:\B520\B520_UK\Ting\Bertification - ABCDEF\ABCDEF01\02 - Bheckmtress\04 - ABC Delivery\05 - ABC Delivery to ABCD\ABC 9\Section 99\Issue 9.0\Zipped files\zip\B520-100 Basic ABC9 S99_03_05 v01 Diaphragms.pdf","B520-100 Basic ABC9 S99_03_05 v01 Diaphragms")

The correct file to open is:

B520-100 Basic ABC9 S99_03_05 v01 Diaphragms.pdf

The file that gets opened is:

B520-100 Basic ABC9 S99_03_01 v01 Generic Location.pdf

I have ascertained that: the hyperlink is going to the correct location and the first part of the file name is "indeed :~}" correct.

After investigating this problem I changed my Office Document Cache settings. Clearing Office Document Cache and then preventing Office Document Cache from retaining closed documents, as follows:

To clear Office Document Cache, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Microsoft Office.
  2. Point to Microsoft Office 2010 Tools, and then click Microsoft Office 2010 Upload Center.
  3. On the Settings menu, click Delete cached files.
  4. Click Delete cached information to confirm the deletion of the files.

To prevent Office Document Cache from retaining closed documents, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Microsoft Office.
  2. Point to Microsoft Office 2010 Tools, and then click Microsoft Office 2010 Upload Center.
  3. On the Settings menu, click Delete files from the Office Document Cache when they are closed.

After you clear Office Document Cache, wait until the last saved document is uploaded to the SharePoint library before you open the document that you want.

UNFORTUNATLY this did not work, it's like the Hyperlink function is guessing at the last bit of the file name and getting it wrong.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Very best regards,

Graeme Yorwarth

    This problem has been resolved:

I had previously used the Insert Hyperlink function accessed through the right click menu.

These Insert Hyperlink objects have recently been very unstable so I used the Hyperlink Function, as this provides me, with my set-up, a more reliable way to hyperlink to external files.

    Unfortunately :~)

I needed to delete the Insert Hyperlink Object using the right click menu and then the Hyperlink Function works fine.

    VBR,

    Graeme
