Screen refresh issues - Excel for Mac

Anyone having issues with screen refresh in Excel for Mac?

I'll type a cell entry (doesn't matter text or numbers) and the cells will appear blank, or if I'm typing over old text, the old text will remain.  If I scroll the cells off screen and bring them back, the cells are updated.  Doesn't seem to happen with all spreadsheets and doesn't seem to happen consistently within the problem spreadsheets either.  Problem seems to just come and go, or it follows a pattern I haven't caught.

Running Excel 15.31 on a 13 inch Macbook Air (early '15) with OS X 10.11.6

    Hi DT_NYCTX,

Seems this is an intermittent issue, could you refer to this article and check if there is any improvement?

Also, you can try the following steps and check whether the issue persists.

    1. Switch from "Page Layout" to "Normal" view (under View menu).
    2. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy, then select Accessibility in the list on the left, check if there are applications listed. If so, uncheck the box and restart Excel.

    Regards,

    James

    Hi DT_NYCTX,

As you said "If I scroll the cells off screen and bring them back, the cells are updated.", that means Excel responses very slowly.

Have you tried the steps listed in this article? Let me know the result.

Also, please check whether other users who are using the same version of Excel have the same issue.

    Regards,

    James

Not really.  I don't understand how any of the suggested fixes apply at all to video driver and screen refresh issues.  I have 2 applications checked in "Accessibility" - Steam and dropbox.

The article link also covers an issue that has no relation at all to my stated problem.

Another user reached out to me saying he had the exact same issue and has found no fixes so far.

How long have you had Office 2016?  How long have you been noticing this problem?

Although it may be an Excel issue, it sounds more like an issue where the video driver does not work properly with Excel. The screen is not being repainted appropriately.

Like Windows, Mac controls of video driver updates other than for external video cards.  So you should also try asking this question on a Mac forum to see if they have any experience with it.

I do know that on PC Excel there have been several reports of a somewhat similar issue with 4K resolution external/2nd monitors.
