Table formatting issues in Microsoft Word

I am trying to format some data tables that I have inserted into Microsoft Word. I am using a preloaded APA style format. There is an extra space within each cell above my text and I cannot get it to go away. I have tried resizing the cell height, but that covers up the text I have in the cells instead of adjusting the text up in the smaller space. I have tried changing the alignment of the text in the cells to top left, but it does not move. I have checked the paragraph formatting to see if that is affecting the table and it looks like the spacing is set to single for the table (it's double spaced for the rest of the document). I've tried adjusting the style of the table and that has not worked. I used the quick add for the table instead of drawing in the table. That is my next step. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. (This is for my dissertation).

See if Spacing Above or Spacing After has been applied to the paragraphs (for example, look in the Paragraph group of Page Layout tab).
