Compiling manuals from separate docs

Hello All!

I am trying to find the best way to compile training manuals. Each manual will consist of polices and procedures that will also be in other training manuals. In order to not duplicate the same policy I would like to save each one independently and somehow merge them together for a printed manual as well as an online version. Later, if a policy/procedure is changes it only needs to be updated once and all manuals will be updates automatically.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for posting in the community.

I assume you are using Word application to compile manuals in Windows 10.

According to your description, you want to combine different documents in one document and displays like a fully formatted manual. I am afraid it is not available to meet your requirement by the build-in feature.

As a workaround, I would like to suggest you insert Field and use bookmark to manually insert part of content to create the manual. For your steps:

    1. Add part of the content as bookmark. Select the content, click Insert> Links> Bookmarks, type the name, Add

    Click File> Info> Copy path

    1. Insert the content. Go to the new document, click Insert> Quick parts> Field, under Links and References, choose IncludeText, paste path, Ok
    2. Edit the field code (Alt+F9) and add the bookmark name immediately after the filename and path. Press Alt+F9 again to hide field codes, and update with F9.

    Regards,

    George
