I have had this problem for years, and it only affects laptops. Over the period of time, I have had the problem I have had several different brands of laptops, and have owned several Desktops. So it isn't a brand-specific issue.
When I have a document in excess of about 250 pages several times a day when I click on the text to either highlight or get spelling suggestions, it will drop the cursor one or two lines above where I click. If I then zoom out and then zoom back in the issue will go away (for a while). I did a screen capture but I don't know how to upload it so that everyone can see what I am trying to describe.

Are you using a mouse or the touch pad on the laptop? I would suggest that using a mouse is more accurate.
