SharePoint adalcache (Mac)

Three or four times in the last week this dialog box has appeared at random times on my desktop:

The dialog box does not respond to me. I type in my password and click "allow." The dialog box shudders and rejects my password.

I click "deny." The box refuses to go away.

The only way to get rid of this box is to restart.

I am on a Macintosh. I have Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams. I have no idea what adalcache is and what it might have to do with any of my Microsoft applications.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this dialog box from opening?

    Dear R-55e,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft forum.

MSAL on uses the com.microsoft.adalcache access group by default. Due to macOS keychain limitations, MSAL's access group doesn't directly translate to the keychain access group attribute. This support article explains that it is safe to give permission to Adalcache.

Now coming to the issue, use the Keychain Access app to delete any password entries that contain "ADAL**."** To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Quit all the Office apps opened on your mac.
    2. Go to Finder>Applications>Utilities>Keychain Access and remove the following password entries:
    • Microsoft Office Identities Cache 2
    • Microsoft Office Identities Settings 2
    1. Search for all occurrences of ADAL (MicrosoftOffice15/16_2_Data:ADAL:<GUID>) **** in the keychain and remove all those entries if present.
    2. Once done, open any Office app, sign in with your valid word or school account, if required, to activate app and then try opening the file.

Also, try the suggestion in the following article:

Office for Mac repeatedly requesting keychain access (microsoft.com)
