Microsoft edge Error code Status_Access_violation

Other browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera) are working ok. The Error code "Status_Access_Violation" applies to Microsoft Edge only.

The repair function did not fix the problem.

"Renaming the application name" fixed the problem a few weeks ago. But after the recent Microsoft Edge update. The Error code appears again, and renaming the application name is no longer working.

    Hi Vic Newmarket,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of the issue you’re experiencing with Microsoft Edge. I understand how frustrating it can be when your browser stops working, especially after an update. Let’s work through this together.

The "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" error usually happens when the browser tries to access memory incorrectly. Here are some steps that often resolve this issue:

    1 - Disable Extensions

    • Open Menu (⋯) → Extensions.
    • Turn off all extensions, restart Edge, and then re-enable them one by one to find any that might be causing the problem.

2 - Clear Cache and Reset Settings

    • Go to Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Clear browsing data.
    • Then, under Reset settings, choose Restore settings to their default values.

3 - Turn Off Hardware Acceleration

    • Navigate to Settings → System and performance.
    • Disable Use hardware acceleration when available, then restart Edge.

4 - If the Issue Persists

Consider running an in-place upgrade of Windows 11 to repair system files without losing your data.

    • Download Windows 11 Installation Assistant (click Download now under Installation Assistant).
    • Run the Tool: Open the downloaded file, allow permissions, and let it check system compatibility.
    • Start Upgrade: Click Accept and Install to begin downloading and installing the latest Windows 11 build.
    • The tool will download, install, and restart your PC multiple times.
    • After the final restart, log in and let Windows complete background updates.

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

I understand the issue you have. There is nothing to worry about. I am here to assist. Since the repair didn't work and still having an issue, I suggest doing an in-place upgrade, wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair all issues without deleting any files.
