Keyboard not working after windows update

After an update my keyboard quit working on both mine and my wife's Dell laptops. Update occurred on the same day and time. After some research uninstalled the keyboard driver through Device Manager and since no keyboard drivers were showing up I restarted the pc. This fixed the issue for that session only. Every time I want to use my keyboard I have to restart my pc. No, a USB keyboard will not work either. Both will work after I restart, mouse works as well as the USB mouse that uses the same connection as the keyboard. Hopefully MS see's all the complaints and will fix it.

Unless there's another fix ?

Thank you.

    Hi,

Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > select "Choose what the power buttons do" > select "Change settings that are currently unavailable" > uncheck the "Turn on fast startup" option and save changes.

Give feedback if the information was useful or not.

    Thanks

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your keyboard after a Windows update. This problem can occur when the update affects the device drivers. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Update Keyboard Drivers: Go to Device Manager, find your keyboard under "Keyboards," right-click it, and select "Update driver." Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
    2. Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers: If updating doesn't help, you can try uninstalling the keyboard driver again. After uninstalling, restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
    3. Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, subsequent updates can fix issues caused by previous ones. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
    4. Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and run the Keyboard troubleshooter to see if it can identify and fix the issue.
    5. Disable Fast Startup: Fast Startup can sometimes cause issues with device drivers. You can disable it by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable, and uncheck "Turn on fast startup."

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be worth checking the Microsoft support forums or contacting Microsoft support for further assistance.
