Support documentation for Windows activation issues is available in the Windows activation help article. It covers how activation works, common error codes, and troubleshooting steps for Windows 10 and Windows 11, including use of the Activation troubleshooter and guidance on product keys and digital licenses.

For Windows 10 and 11, see the "Get help with Windows activation errors" article, which includes:

    • General activation guidance and links to the main "Activate Windows" documentation.
    • A table of common activation error codes (such as 0x800704CF and others) and how to fix them.
    • Links to related topics like finding a product key and reactivating after hardware changes.

From that article, additional linked docs provide more detail:

    • "Activate Windows" – general info about activation methods and steps.
    • "Find your Windows product key" – where to locate a valid key.
    • "Using the Windows Activation troubleshooter" – how to run the troubleshooter from Settings.
    • "Reactivating Windows after a hardware change" – steps if the motherboard or other major hardware was replaced.

    1

What happened on your PC before Windows was not activated.

    2

Where did you get your Windows licence was that pre-installed on the PC or did you purchase a full retail Windows licence from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer, and if so, do you have the product key?

Or is your Windows licence based on a previous Windows 7 or 8 licence?

    3

Click your Start Button, type cmd then right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Run or paste this command and hit Enter:

    slmgr.vbs /dlv

Please post a screenshot of the resulting dialog
