Email Alias Not Working

HI,

I created an email alias on my live.com account and it is not working. I sent a test email to the newly created alias from my gmail account and did not receive it at my live.com account. I did this multiple times and it did not receive the test email in any of those cases.

Please advise.

Thanks, Del

    Hi Del,

Good day. For your newly created alias on Microsoft account, it could be a setup delay or a configuration issue.

    1. After creation try to wait a bit and make sure the alias is fully active. Go to "Your info" > "Manage how you sign in to Microsoft" and confirm if the alias is listed. Try to set the alias as your "Primary" temporarily. Wait up to 24 hours after creation then test sending email again.
    2. Try to check for Outlook inbox rules, spam and forwarding settings. Open your Outlook and check: Junk/Spam folder, Other / Focused inbox tabs, inbox rules (Settings > Mail > Rules), Forwarding settings make sure emails aren’t being sent elsewhere.
    3. If nothing works, try to remove the alias and recreate it.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Jhun

Follow these steps to troubleshoot the alias not receiving mail:

    1. Verify the alias is fully created and confirmed
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account website.
      • Go to Your infoManage how you sign in to Microsoft.
      • Confirm the new alias appears there and is verified (follow any on-screen verification steps if shown).
    2. Check for known delays with new aliases
      • There can be a delay before a newly created Outlook.com alias becomes fully usable.
      • As a workaround, sign out of Outlook.com and close all browser windows, then sign back in and test again.
    3. Test from another sender and check all folders
      • Send another test message (from Gmail and, if possible, from a different provider) to the alias.
      • Check Inbox, Junk Email, and any custom folders or rules that might move messages.
    4. If the alias still does not receive mail
      • Use the Outlook.com interactive troubleshooter for “can’t receive mail” and follow the guided steps.
      • If the error “The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect” appears, update the email address/alias configuration as directed in the alias management article.
    5. Contact Outlook.com support if the problem persists
      • In Outlook.com, select Help on the menu bar, describe the issue (new alias not receiving mail), and use the Still need help? option to reach support.
