Getting black screen after login to windows server 2012 R2. It seems explorer.exe not launching automatically.
I am able to start it manually as an administrator from task manager ( ctrl+alt+del after login )
I have already checked after installing this patch Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB2887595) - Windows8.1-KB2887595-v2-x64.msu, but it is not working. Can someone share any other working solution if you have

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

You can attempt to narrow the problem down by performing a few troubleshooting steps.

    1. First you can do a quick fix by running sfc /scannow and Chkdsk in command prompt.
    2. If it doesn't work, you can try check the registry.
      1. Open Registry Editor
      2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
      3. Find REG_SZ named Shell, make sure the Value data must be explorer.exe 15734-1.png
    3. You can also try safe mode to check if everything loads correctly. Force the machine to reboot --> keep pressing F8 --> into Advanced Boot Options --> select Safe Mode

I also find a similar case, you could refer to the following link: https://www.kapilarya.com/fix-explorer-exe-not-running-on-startup-in-windows-10 Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice.
