I'm haven't had much of a chance to be on my computer recently, but about 2 weeks ago I noticed my wireless headset was not playing any noise. I let it sit for a few days but the problem hadn't fixed. The headset was connected, the headset itself is fine, but no dice. I looked at my drivers and the generic bluetooth adapter had a code 43. I tried updating my pc, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, and pretty much all the advice I could find online. has anyone had this problem before? how can I fix it?

    Hi,

Access msinfo32.exe in the search bar, take a screenshot and post it here so we can see the laptop model or desktop configuration to check the correct driver.

We can reinstall and try to fix it, but it's possible it's a Bluetooth hardware failure.

    Thanks

Code 43 on the Generic Bluetooth Adapter usually indicates a driver or compatibility problem. Since updating Windows and reinstalling the driver did not help, follow these steps focused on Windows 11 Bluetooth drivers:

    1. Update the Bluetooth driver via Device Manager
      1. Open Device Manager.
      2. Expand Bluetooth.
      3. Right‑click the Bluetooth adapter (it may include the word “radio”) and select Update driver.
      4. Select Search automatically for updated driver software and complete the wizard.
      5. Restart the PC if prompted and test the headset again.
    2. Uninstall and let Windows reinstall the adapter Since this was already tried, repeat it once more but ensure a full power cycle:
      1. In Device Manager, expand Bluetooth.
      2. Right‑click the Bluetooth adapter and select Uninstall device.
      3. Confirm the uninstall.
      4. Shut down the PC completely (not just restart). Wait a few seconds, then power it back on.
      5. Windows should automatically reinstall the Bluetooth driver. If it does not, in Device Manager select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
    3. Install the latest driver from the PC manufacturer If the automatic update does not resolve code 43, install the OEM driver, as generic or outdated drivers are a common cause of Bluetooth issues:
      1. Go to the PC manufacturer’s support website.
      2. Search using the exact PC model.
      3. Download the latest Bluetooth driver for Windows 11 (or Windows 10 if that is what the manufacturer provides for the device).
      4. If the download is an .exe file, run it and complete setup.
      5. If the download contains .inf and .sys files:
        • Open Device ManagerBluetooth → right‑click the adapter → Update driver.
        • Select Browse my computer for driver software.
        • Browse to the folder where the driver files were extracted and select OK.
        • Click Next and finish the installation.
      6. Restart the PC and test Bluetooth again.
    4. If the Bluetooth icon is missing but the adapter shows in Device Manager If the Bluetooth icon disappears while the adapter still appears in Device Manager, repeat the uninstall/reinstall steps above. This forces Windows to reload the stack and often clears persistent error 43 conditions.

If, after these steps, the adapter still shows code 43, the issue is likely with hardware (the Bluetooth radio on the motherboard or USB module) or a very specific OEM driver problem. In that case, use the manufacturer’s support channel for further diagnostics.
