Startups: Companies that are in their initial stages of business and typically developing a business model and seeking financing.
The Microsoft for Startups Investor Network is not published publicly and there is no open directory where startups can browse or directly pitch to those investors.
For access to the Microsoft for Startups investor offer (and its enhanced Azure credits and benefits), a startup must already be affiliated with an investor that is part of the Microsoft for Startups Investor Network. The only way to verify this and apply is via a referral code provided by that investor (accelerator, VC, incubator, university, or angel):
- Confirm whether any existing investors, accelerators, or incubators already involved with the startup are part of the Microsoft for Startups Investor Network.
- If so, request their unique referral code.
- Once a referral code is obtained, go to startups.microsoft.com, select “Get started now”, and enter the referral code to begin the Microsoft for Startups investor offer application.
If there is currently no investor relationship, the path available is the open Azure startup credit offer, which does not require an investor and provides up to $5,000 in Azure credits for eligible startups. Later, if funding is secured from an affiliated investor, the startup can then apply to the investor offer using that investor’s referral code.
The list of participating investors cannot be shared publicly; all referral codes and confirmation of affiliation must come directly from the investor.
