I called (888) 984-9124 and someone had me download Ultraviewer and run several commands that exposed my software. Does Microsoft really do that?

No, where did you find this phone number? Doesn't sound like you spoke to the legitimate Microsoft.

Microsoft's consumer support is by chat ONLY.

To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus.

Since you've let some scammers in your computer, I strongly suggest that you disconnect the internet, backup your personal files and perform a reset.

And also consider changing your account password using a different device.

Microsoft does not operate that way. This matches a known tech support scam pattern.

    Key points:

    1. Microsoft does not:
      • Cold-call or ask customers to call random phone numbers for unsolicited support.
      • Ask users to install third‑party remote‑access tools like UltraViewer from a pop‑up or unexpected call.
      • Use error or warning messages that contain phone numbers to call.
    2. What happened is consistent with a tech support scam:
      • Scammers pretend to be from Microsoft or “Windows support.”
      • They ask to install remote‑access software and then “show” fake problems while accessing the device.
      • They may try to steal data, install malware, or demand payment for fake services.
    3. Immediate steps to take:
      • Uninstall UltraViewer or any other software they had installed.
      • Run a full scan with Microsoft Defender Antivirus on Windows.
      • Change passwords for important accounts (email, banking, Microsoft account) from a trusted device.
      • Monitor accounts and financial statements for suspicious activity.
      • If any payment or card details were provided, contact the bank or card issuer.
      • Report the scam to Microsoft at https://www.microsoft.com/reportascam.

Microsoft support should always be reached only through official channels that are initiated by the user, not via unsolicited phone numbers or pop‑ups.
