Not enough disk space

Question

Is there any way to buy more local disk space, i only have 3 games downloaded and im using over 800gb of space which means i cant download any of the other games i would like to play, i used 2 different clean up software and the already built in one there is no more space i can clean up, money is no problem please just tell me what i can buy.

Buying more local disk space means adding or replacing storage hardware; Windows cannot “buy” more space in software.

Before buying hardware, first ensure existing space is actually freed and used efficiently:

1. Check what is using space

• Open File Explorer > This PC and check each drive’s used/free space.
• In Windows 11: Start > Settings > System > Storage. Use “Cleanup recommendations” and “Temporary files” to see large items and remove them if safe.

2. Free up space with built-in tools

• Use Disk Cleanup:
  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type disk cleanup and open it.
  2. Select the drive (usually C:) and click OK.
  3. Select file types to delete (Temporary files, Thumbnails, etc.).
  4. Click Clean up system files to remove system files like old Windows installations if you no longer need to roll back.
  5. Click OK > Delete files.
• Turn on Storage Sense (Windows 11):
  • Start > Settings > System > Storage, then turn on Storage Sense to automatically remove temporary and unnecessary files.

3. Move and store content off the main drive

• Save new personal files (videos, screenshots, downloads) to another drive:
  1. Start > Settings > System > Storage > Advanced storage settings > Where new content is saved.
  2. Choose another drive for new apps, documents, music, etc.
• Turn on OneDrive Files On-Demand so less-used files stay in the cloud instead of on the disk.

4. Hardware options to “buy more space” If the drive is still too small for large games:

• Add an internal drive (SSD or HDD) if the PC has a free slot.
• Replace the existing drive with a larger SSD (requires reinstalling or cloning Windows and games).
• Add an external SSD/HDD via USB and move games or personal files there (check each game platform’s support for installing to external drives).

When new storage is added, use Storage settings to install new games and save new content to that drive so the system drive does not fill up again.
