AMD RX 9060 XT driver suddenly will not function

My gpu is recognized by the device manager. It gives me an error code 43. I have tried updating the driver, no joy. I have tried completely uninstalling all graphics drivers, devices, etc.; no joy. I have tried a factory reset. No joy. Adrenaline will download and will often go to a screen that says that it needs to download and install, but merely repeats that over and over.

Hi, at this point the most useful test is to confirm whether the card itself is failing.

Please test the RX 9060 XT in another desktop PC, or test another known-working GPU in this PC.

If the RX 9060 XT still shows Code 43 in another PC, it is very likely a hardware/firmware issue with the card, and you should contact the GPU manufacturer or seller for warranty/RMA.

If another GPU works normally in this PC, that also points back to the RX 9060 XT rather than Windows.

Error code 43 indicates that one of the drivers controlling the graphics device has reported a failure and Windows has stopped the device.

Since updating and reinstalling the driver through normal means has not helped, use the following sequence focused on completely removing and reinstalling the driver, and verifying whether the issue is hardware-related:

    1. Uninstall the current display adapter in Device Manager
      1. Open Device Manager (right-click Start > Device Manager).
      2. Find the AMD RX 9060 XT under Display adapters (it may have a yellow exclamation mark).
      3. Right-click the device and select Uninstall device.
      4. In the confirmation dialog, if available, select Delete the driver software for this device and select OK.
      5. On the menu bar, select Action > Scan for hardware changes to let Windows reinstall a basic driver and see if the device status changes.
    2. If the problem persists, remove the driver package more completely
      1. In Device Manager, enable View > Show hidden devices.
      2. Repeat the uninstall for any hidden or duplicate display adapters related to the AMD card, again selecting Delete the driver software for this device when available.
      3. To ensure permanent removal of the problematic driver package, use the pnputil command from an elevated Command Prompt to delete the specific AMD display driver package from the driver store, as described in the driver uninstallation guidance. This prevents Windows from automatically reinstalling the same failing package.
      4. After removal, restart the PC and then install the latest AMD driver package again.
    3. Check for other causes of graphics failures
      1. Make sure Windows is fully updated, as driver and graphics stack updates can resolve TDR and device-failure issues.
      2. Verify that all graphics-related software (such as DirectX and any graphics-intensive applications) is up to date.
      3. If blue screens with VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (0x116) or similar appear, follow the guidance to update or disable the identified driver and confirm hardware compatibility.
      4. If issues continue even with the Microsoft basic display driver or after a clean driver reinstall, consult the GPU manufacturer’s hardware diagnostics or documentation, as error code 43 can also indicate a hardware problem.

If, after these steps, Device Manager still shows Code 43 for the RX 9060 XT, the next step is to check the card in another system (if possible) or contact the GPU manufacturer for hardware diagnostics and potential RMA, since the code can reflect a failing device rather than just a driver issue.
