Configure authentication to Asana

Important

This feature is in Beta. To use it, a workspace admin must turn on Lakeflow Connect for Asana from the Previews page. See Manage Azure Databricks previews.

To let the Lakeflow Connect Asana connector authenticate, register an Asana OAuth app with full permissions and add it to the Asana workspace that you want to ingest from. Use the credentials retrieved from the steps on this page to create a Unity Catalog connection in Azure Databricks.

Prerequisites

  • An Asana user who can view the workspaces, teams, projects, and other objects that you want to ingest. The connector accesses the Asana API on behalf of the authorizing user, so it ingests only data that this user can access. See Asana OAuth.
  • To ingest portfolios, goals, and time tracking entries, an Asana Advanced or Enterprise plan. To ingest custom fields, a Starter plan or higher. See Asana pricing.
  • Your Azure Databricks workspace URL, to set the OAuth app's redirect URL.

Configure Asana

Register an Asana OAuth app to obtain the client ID and client secret that Azure Databricks uses to authenticate. For more information, see Asana OAuth and Asana app distribution.

  1. Sign in to the Asana developer console.
  2. Select Create new app.
  3. Enter an App name. Users see this name when the app requests permission to access their account.
  4. Set the Redirect URL to https://<workspace-url>/login/oauth/http.html, where <workspace-url> is your Azure Databricks workspace URL.
  5. On the OAuth tab, under Permission scopes, toggle on Full permissions. The connector requests the Asana default scope, which requires an app registered with full permissions.
  6. On the Manage distribution tab, select Specific workspace, then save.
  7. Select + Add workspace, select the Asana workspace to ingest from, then select Add.
  8. On the OAuth tab, copy the client ID and client secret. Use these values to create a Unity Catalog connection in Azure Databricks.
