The Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability water data model (preview) helps you to unify and prepare water sustainability data to achieve your organization's water sustainability goals. The Cloud for Sustainability water data model (preview) is part of the Cloud for Sustainability data model. It provides the schema required for storing and linking water quality and quantity measurement data and water sustainability reference data. The schema makes water sustainability data available for use cases such as water sustainability disclosures and regulatory water quality reporting.

The Cloud for Sustainability water data model (preview) consists of three types of entities related to water quantity, quality, and sustainability reference data. The schema also shares common entities, such as facility and organization information, with the Cloud for Sustainability data model.

The entities related to water quantity data store water quantity or volume measurements such as water discharge and withdrawal. The schema also stores sustainability reference data, such as information about water type and water source that add usage context to the quantity measurements. The schema links the sustainability reference data with the quantity measurements to prepare it for addressing different use cases. For example, it can help you determine water withdrawal volumes from specific water sources for your facilities for water sustainability disclosures.

The entities related to water quality data store measurements related to the chemical, physical, and biological properties of water. The schema also stores sustainability reference data, such as sampling procedures, testing methods, and the metadata for the measured properties. The schema links the sustainability reference data with the quality measurements to prepare it for addressing different use cases. For example, it can help you determine effluent quantities and their reference ranges in wastewater for regulatory water quality reporting.

You can use the Cloud for Sustainability water data model (preview) in various scenarios, including the following examples:

  • Water sustainability disclosures: Report the quantity of water consumed and discharged by your facilities from various water sources, based on water sustainability disclosure standards.

  • Wastewater quality reporting: Report wastewater effluent data in water samples collected from your facilities, based on effluent reporting standards.
