At TakeLessons, both teachers and students are required to follow certain guidelines when using our Website and Service(s).

As a Provider, you are required to:

  • Let TakeLessons handle the billing for all lessons (initial and subsequent lessons) for all students provided by TakeLessons, for as long as you work with them

  • Maintain accurate information regarding location, availability and services offered

  • Render services at the rate established at the time of booking

  • Honor scheduling policies as agreed to by you and your students

  • Log into your account every 60 days to keep your account active and have the opportunity for new students to book lessons with you

  • Not possess, use, sell, or be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while conducting instruction (unless you are teaching mixology lessons and all students are over 21 years old)

As a Provider, you are encouraged to:

  • Address all schedule details directly with your Students

  • Notify TakeLessons if your Student misses more than 3 consecutive lessons in a row

  • Alert TakeLessons if your Student is having any trouble with billing that we can assist with

You also agree that:

  • You understand that TakeLessons provides marketing and support services to your teaching business. We are a digital marketing business with a marketplace and services that may help you gain new clients for your own business. Your relationship with us is that of an independent contractor, and nothing in these Guidelines, the Terms of Use, or any agreement is intended to, or shall be construed to create a partnership, agency, joint venture, employment or similar relationship between you and us.

  • You will not list personal information on your teaching profile, such as your last name, phone number, email address and/or links to other websites.

  • You are not entitled to any of the benefits that we may make available to our employees, such as group health or life insurance, profit-sharing or retirement benefits.

  • You are not authorized to make any representation, contract, or commitment on our behalf unless specifically requested or authorized by us in writing to do so.

  • You are solely responsible for, and will file on a timely basis, all tax returns and payments required to be filed with, or made to, any federal, state or local tax authority with respect to the performance of the services and receipt of compensation from us.

  • No part of your compensation will be subject to withholding by us for the payment of any social security, federal, state or any other employee payroll taxes. We will regularly report amounts paid to you by filing Form 1099MISC with the Internal Revenue Service as required by law.

  • You will accurately mark lessons in your TakeLessons account after lessons are complete in order to receive payment for those lessons

  • You will observe all anti-harassment and non-discrimination laws in the performance of your services.

For your reference, here are our Student guidelines that your students are required to follow.

Background Checks

As of April 15th, 2020, TakeLessons requires all new contractors to have a background check. Starting January 1st, 2022 all new and existing contractors will be required to have a background check in order to provide services through the TakeLessons platform. The listing of your services on any TakeLessons property, or an offer of an independent contractor engagement with TakeLessons, is contingent upon your successful completion of a background investigation. The background investigation must be done at your expense by a vendor-approved by TakeLessons and in accordance with its standards. The company reserves the right to decline an engagement, or to decline listing the services of anyone convicted of, or pleading guilty or no contest to, any crime involving domestic violence, sexual misconduct, child pornography or abuse, or any other violation of the law rendering such individual ill-suited for work with children or adult students. Further, if engaged by TakeLessons, the company reserves the right to conduct further background investigations if there is reason to believe that a contractor is engaging in activities rendering their further engagement inappropriate and to take any action it deems necessary for the safety and well-being of its users.
