Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat includes prebuilt agents designed to support different kinds of work. Each agent is tuned for a specific type of task, such as research, analysis, writing improvement, ideation, or prompt refinement. These agents can use the Microsoft 365 context available to you while respecting file permissions and organizational policies.

Whether you're analyzing data, writing content, brainstorming ideas, or improving prompts, there's often a prebuilt agent that fits the job. This module covered several of the key prebuilt agents available in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. Keep in mind that Microsoft continues to update the Copilot experience, so the set of available agents may change over time.

The following list describes the prebuilt agents that were covered in this module and summarizes what each agent is best at:

  • Analyst. Analyzing structured data, running Python code, generating insights, and visualizing trends.
  • Researcher. Gathering background information, summarizing content, identifying patterns, and organizing findings.
  • Idea Coach. Strengthening and refining your ideas, offering constructive feedback, and stress-testing concepts.
  • Writing Coach. Improving clarity, tone, structure, and grammar in documents, emails, and other written content.
  • Prompt Coach. Helping you write clearer, more effective prompts to get better results from Copilot.

This module also examined when it's best to use each agent:

  • Use Analyst when you need to generate a forecast, analyze trends, or extract insights from spreadsheets.
  • Use Researcher when you want a concise overview, content summary, or structured research on a topic.
  • Use Idea Coach when you want feedback on a proposal or need to improve an idea before sharing it.
  • Use Writing Coach when you're revising written content for clarity, tone, or grammar.
  • Use Prompt Coach when Copilot's output isn't what you expected, and you want to revise your prompt.
