Cleaning EDB on on-prem in a hybrid environment

Hi all,

We have a hybrid environment. Everything ok. We migrated all mailboxes to 365. We have an on-prem Exchange 2013 server so we will keep it to do some recipient changes.

But....

The on-prem EDB file is more than 1TB and all mailboxes were migrated so the content is on 365.

Question: Can I use eseutil on the edb (on-prem) database to shrink it? And by doing so will the interaction/communication with the mailboxes on 365 stay unchanged?

I expect that it will be no problem, but it is our first migration to 365 so some caution is what I like.

Thanks for your feedback.

Kurt

    No need to do that.

If you have no user mailboxes left.

    Create a new database

Move all the arbitration mailboxes to the new database:

Remove and Delete the old database
