Also this domain controller takes 2 hours in this screen to reach desktop after reboot of this domain controller
Cumulative update KB5040434 not getting installed in Windows server 2016 Domain controller
Hello Team,
When I install the KB5040434 either through WSUS or manually, it is getting installed, rebooting after that the below screen appears
It is getting rolled back only in this Domain controller, the similar domain controller server 2016 in the same site is having no problem
Problem is only with the cumulative updates in the past couple of months,
Below steps followed during the troubleshooting
1.Restarted the domain controller before installing the patch
2.Restarted the Windows update related services
3.Renamed the software distribution folder, renamed catroot folder
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance,

2024-09-17T17:31:33.3433333+00:00 I have noticed that when I tried to login to this domain controller for the first time after the reboot, the login stuck at the above OTHER USER WELCOME screen, not only for my account in domain admins group, for my colleague who is in the same domain admins group also faces the same delay of hours to reach the desktop. If I logoff and log back again, it is instantly reaching the desktop. Only for the first time login after the reboot of the domain controller, this delay happens
Anybody please advise on this issue

2024-09-18T08:07:25.5533333+00:00 Hello Techshan,
Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.
Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot this problem:
- Look at the Event Viewer logs to identify any specific errors or warnings related to the update failure. This can provide more insight into what went wrong.
- Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter to detect and fix any problems with the update process.
- Run chkdsk /f /r to check for and fix any disk errors.
- Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
Follow it with sfc /scannow.
I hope the information above is helpful.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.
Best Regards,
Daisy Zhou

2024-09-23T07:56:28.1+00:00 Hello everyone,
Successfully installed the patch manually, after following the steps recommended from Microsoft as below
Workaround
To work around this issue, set the time-out value to a larger value in the registry, and then reapply the hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Start Registry Editor.
2. Locate the following subkey: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TrustedInstaller
3. Right-click the TrustedInstaller key, and then click Permissions.
4. Grant the Full Control user right to the Administrators group.
5. Change the BlockTimeIncrement value to 2a30 (Hexadecimal).
Note
This change sets the time-out value to three hours. This should be sufficient for most situations. However, you may have to try a larger value in your environment.
6. Restart the server, and then apply the hotfix again.
I got this information from the below link , Thanks to mitdal369 who posted 2 years ago
