Hello Alan Baigorria Tapferkeit,
Step 1: Check compatibility with Windows 10
As your workstation is currently using Windows 7, you should first make sure that it is compatible with Windows 10. You can do this as follows:
- Use the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant
- Download the Windows 10 Update Assistant from Microsoft.
- Run the tool and follow the instructions. It will automatically check whether your PC is compatible.
- Minimum requirements for Windows 10
- Processor: 1 GHz or faster
- RAM: 1 GB for 32-bit / 2 GB for 64-bit
- Storage space: At least 16 GB for 32-bit / 20 GB for 64-bit
- Graphics card: DirectX 9 or higher with WDDM 1.0 driver
If your PC supports Windows 10, you can install it via the update wizard or a new installation.
Step 2: Check Windows 11 compatibility
Windows 11 has higher requirements than Windows 10. To find out if your hardware is compatible:
- Use the PC Health Check tool
- Download the PC Health Check tool.
- Run it and check if your PC is suitable for Windows 11.
- Minimum requirements for Windows 11
- Processor: At least 1 GHz, 64-bit, 2 or more cores (must be in the compatible CPU list).
- RAM: 4 GB or more
- Storage space: 64 GB or more
- TPM 2.0 required
- UEFI & Secure Boot must be enabled
If your PC is not compatible, there are sometimes workarounds, but Microsoft recommends using a compatible device.
Step 3: Upgrade to Windows 11
If your PC supports Windows 11, the following upgrade options are available:
- Via Windows Update
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- If Windows 11 is offered, follow the instructions.
- Windows 11 installation wizard
- Download the installation wizard.
- Run it to upgrade directly.
- Clean reinstallation with a USB stick
- Download the Media Creation Tool.
- Create a bootable USB stick and install Windows 11 fresh.
