I have a microsoft surface laptop studio and I am having trackpad issues. the trackpad works but at times randomly starts highlighting and the haptics go crazy. when I put it in tablet mode, and then back to pc mode, it works properly but then later on starts bugging again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers but it's still not working. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

    Hi Muheki Eric,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

I am aware of the issue you are having with the trackpad on your Surface laptop studio, where it will occasionally be highlighting, and the haptics are not functioning properly. I am here to help and let work on this together. Allow me to ask some questions.

    • May I know what build version of Windows you are currently running?
    • When did this issue started?
    • Were there any changes made prior to this happen?

You may try the following steps below to troubleshoot your device.

Force the device to shut down and restart to clear your hardware cache.

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check any pending updates available including optional updates.

See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)

    Change touchpad sensitivity.

Open Windows Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad. Expand Taps then adjust the Touchpad sensitivity settings.

Boot your Surface to UEFI and check if problem persist.

    1. Select Start > Settings > System > Recovery.
    2. Next to Advanced startup, select Restart Now.
    3. Under Choose an option, select TroubleshootAdvanced OptionsUEFI Firmware Settings, and then select Restart.
    4. Once you're in the UEFI screen, test to see if the touchpad allows regular control of the mouse arrow and if problem persist.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

Did you boot your device to UEFI screen as what I instructed above? Did it work?

If the touchpad still not working correctly, there is more likely a hardware problem.

I am running windows 11 pro

I bought this laptop refurbished and it seems to have come with this error.

I just upgraded the SSD from 256 to 512 but even before the upgrade it was still doing the same thing.

And all these solutions didnt fix the problem.
