Touch Screen not working

I have the Surface Book 2, and I have not ever dropped the laptop and it doesn't have any physical damage, however, I am out of warranty and have had this laptop for 4 years now. I first started having the ghost or phantom touch, and then my screen stopped responding to my touch and pen. When the touchscreen used to work and I used to take notes with my pen, the writing would go haywire on the bottom left of my screen. I could also see green specs which I believe are the LED. I tried doing the recommended steps, such as deleting the touch screen from the device manager and restarting the device. When that didn't work I ran the diagnostic toolkit, however even that didn't seem to work.

    Hi Kushveen,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Surface Book 2's touch screen. Based on the symptoms you've described, it's possible that there may be a hardware issue with the device. Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) is a type of software that helps Windows communicate with your Surface’s hardware. Because UEFI operates independently of Windows, testing hardware in UEFI will work if you have a hardware issue.

    • If touch does not work in UEFI, your device likely has experienced a hardware failure and needs servicing.
    • If touch works in UEFI, the issue probably involves Windows or the touch driver.

Follow these steps to boot to UEFI and test touch functionality:

    1. Go to Start  > Power  > Shut down .
    2. When Surface is off, press and hold the volume up button and press the power button until a Microsoft or Surface logo appears onscreen.
    3. Once you are in UEFI, touch your Surface screen and see if it responds normally. Try to navigate in UEFI by tapping various menu items. Then, depending on how your Surface responds to touch, follow one of these steps:
    • If touch doesn't work on your Surface, your touchscreen most likely experienced a hardware failure.
    • If touch works on your Surface, select EXIT, follow any onscreen instructions, and restart Windows. Reset Surface.

If you’re still having a problem with your touchscreen, try resetting your Surface. To learn how, see Restore or reset Surface for Windows and follow the recommended steps for "Reset this PC."

If you have performed the above troubleshooting and the touchscreen still does not work, you may have a hardware failure. Unfortunately, because this model has been discontinued, out of warranty support and service for such models is no longer available. We appreciate your commitment to Surface and apologize for any inconvenience. Your SincerelyHahn. W - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
