I had the same problem with Windows Updates ask me for administrator permission when I was logged in as the administrator. Sometimes Windows Updates works fine and sometimes it has it's glitches but there's usually a way around it if you want to install the update. Here is one to try: Go to Start Menu >> Windows Update. You can eliminate the administrator prompt problem here by going to Change Settings in the sidebar and ticking the box which Allow all users to install updates on this computer. You can always change this back again after you've installed the desired updates. I hope this helps.
Windows Update requesting Admin permission while logged in as an Admin
I recently re-installed Vista Ultimate after trouble with a bad copy of Windows 7. I am the administrator. The only account I have currently is the admin. account. No matter what update I try to install, Windows Update asks me to either log on as an administrator or ask one to perform the task for me. I have read blogs and Q&A @http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/afa66485-9c42-469e-b393-5bd8ad5a82e5 until my eyes bled. For Heaven's sake: Why can't this be resolved without so much hassle?

2011-08-01T22:09:19+00:00 I had this problem. Just click on start and find the Windows Update program, if it's not there at the beginning just type it in the search bar.
Right click on Windows Update and select 'Run as Administrator'. You will now be able to install all updates

2010-08-13T20:37:17+00:00 I am running windows vista home premium service pack 2, with sophos antivirus (up to date) and i have no third party fire wall, only the supplied microsoft firewall. i wish to remove the automatic download and install however i get this message "some settings are managed by your system administrator" on the option screen and the actual options are greyed out. i am a system admin, i have switched to a different admin account and tried, i have attempted to alter it while the antivirus is disabled, i have tried turning off uac and i have enabled the inbuilt admin account and none of these make a difference.

2010-06-03T17:07:01+00:00 Right-click on My Computer & select Properties: What Windows version is displayed in the resulting General tab (e.g., Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1; Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2)?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?
