Error Code 2 Updating/Installing Java under Windows 8.1

I haven't been able to update Java under 8.1 and, since uninstalling Java, I now can't install it. The problem is always the same...

I get a "Java install did not complete Error Code 2" message after Java has downloaded and gone through some process of installing and before it completes.

Googling, looking at the Java site, etc. has found no other references to this problem/error code and, of course, there is no way to contact them.

I had this error too. It was an easier solution than expected.

My last try was to install with another admin account. This worked for me.

My usual userprofil must have some regkeys or folderproblems (may be with folderredirection) why java was not able to install.

    Regards.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I would suggest you to follow the steps provided below and update us on the status of the issue.

Method 1: Let's enable "Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid”option and check.

    1. Open “Internet Explorer” in desktop mode.
    2. Click on “Tools” in the menu bar and select “Internet Options”.
    3. Click on “Advanced tab” and locate “Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid” under the “Security” category and check the box.
    4. Click Apply and then Ok.
    5. Close the Internet Explorer and restart Internet Explorer.

Method 2: Perform clean boot and try to download and install Java.

Clean boot will help us identify if any third party applications or start up items are causing the issue.

To do this, follow steps from this link:

Note: After checking the functionality in clean boot, follow the suggestions under “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot”.

Method 3: Refer the troubleshooting steps provided in the given link:

Note: Firewall can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable the firewall. If you have to temporarily turn it off, you should turn it on as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your firewall if off, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Please try the suggestions provided and let us know the status of the issue so that we can help you further.
