File explorer cannot open my micro sd

I'm trying to use my micro sd card with my w10 computer. I'm running the card through a MicroSD to USB adapter, but file explorer cannot open it. When I click on the microSD, it seems like file explorer searches the drive, with a green bar in the file path near the top. The green bar never finishes, and the background of my pc goes entirely black until the microSD is removed. What is causing this and is there any way to fix it?

    Hi Grey_H

Try to run the Hardware and Device Troubleshooter

    1. Go to Settings.
    2. Click > Update & security.
    3. Click > Troubleshoot.
    4. Click > “Hardware and Devices”, then click “Run the troubleshooter" button.
