Text input lag / queueing?

I have a brand new HP all in one model 24-cr0337c running Windows 11 23H2 that is having problems with text input on both a barcode reader and the keyboard, but I believe them to be symptoms of the same issue.

With the barcode reader, which acts just like a keyboard, scanning a barcode results in only some of the numbers appearing in notepad until more input is given, such as the scroll wheel, moving the mouse, tapping a key on the keyboard, etc. Oddly enough, LibreOffice is the only application I've found that doesn't experience this issue - both google chrome and notepad do.

For the keyboard, keys are being skipped over or missed while typing normally. Both devices are wireless with their own receivers which are plugged into the USB ports on the back of the all-in-one, so they're only a foot or two away from them.

I have tried:

  • Switching USB ports
  • using USB extenders to get the receivers farther from the computer / closer to peripherals
  • pulling all windows 11 updates including "optional drivers"
  • updating drivers through device manager
  • "SFC /scannow" in command prompt
  • disabling accessibility settings under "filter keys"
  • disabling spell checking, auto correct, highlighting of misspelled words, etc.
  • using a different barcode reader of the same model that works on another windows 11 pc, and a completely different barcode reader model.
  • disabled fast boot

It's such an odd issue, I can't pin it down. Any help would be useful.

I have run into a similar issue on numerous Windows 11 computers at my office. Scanning from a barcode or QR code reader into Notepad, the input lags, displaying 3 characters then waiting several seconds, then displaying 3 more and waiting several seconds, repeat until done. However, I tried out several other programs, including LibreOffice, Microsoft Office, Notepad++ (open source), and web browsers; none of these applications demonstrate a delay.

    Good afternoon!

I found that this was the USB Polling Interval on my scanner is set to 3ms. I changed this to 9ms by scanning the configuration barcode for my scanner and instantly solved the issue.

I used the barcode on page 107 here:

I have this same issue on two machines.

    Both windows 11.

    Both running Notepad 11.2401.26.0

If i scan barcodes into wordpad it works fine. If i scan them into notepad the text will not appear correctly.

This looks to be a windows 11 / notepad bug.

    it needs fixing.

For myself I turned off Spell check >> Autocorrect (click the upper right gear).

It appears to have helped as I had what appeared to be random missing info especially shortly at the start of the scan.

It should not matter but tested with a DataMatrix with 44 characters. Output is ~1sec.

    Tested Note Pad Version 11.2405.13.0
