Thanks for the detailed update. This new information is helpful and changes the likely issue.

Based from what you share, the facts are:

    1. Windows key + D on Notepad takes you to the home screen (which is what Win+D should do).
    2. Pressing just the Windows key alone on Notepad acts like pressing Tab (selects but doesn't open).
    3. The problem happens more often when you're holding W (for walking) and then left clicking in game.

This strongly suggests that the issue is not a faulty Windows Key getting stuck.

The Windows key acting like Tab is also very unusual and points towards a specific software interpretation of your keyboard input or could be a keyboard malfunction.

Let's reassess based on this new information. The primary suspect now changes to a software conflict or could be keyboard driver/firmware issue that's misinterpreting key combinations.

To eliminate the keyboard issue let's test with a different keyboard. This is important.

If you have any other keyboard available (even a generic one) plug it in and disconnect your current keyboard.

Test during game , holding W and left-clicking. Also, please test the Windows key in Notepad same as what you did prior.

Result A: Problem stops. This definitively tells you the problem is with your current keyboard hardware, its specific drivers, or its associated software/firmware.

Result B: Problem persists. This means the issue is more likely with your Windows installation, other background software, or the mouse, but the keyboard is less likely the primary cause of the issue.

Before we move to more complicated troubleshooting steps, my strongest recommendation is to get your hands on a different keyboard for testing. This will instantly tell us if your current keyboard is the culprit. If it is, then diving into its specific software and firmware updates will be our next step.

    Hello Azarel,

I'm Riza an Independent Advisor. Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. Let's work on this together.

Let's go through some troubleshooting steps so we can pinpoint whether it's your keyboard, mouse, software or system causing the issue.

Start with your keyboard by testing your Windows Key. Open your Notepad.

Press the Windows Key on your keyboard repeatedly. Does the Start Menu pop up consistently?

Now, try pressing Windows Key + D deliberately. Does it show/hide the desktop?

Now, try to deliberately press only your left mouse button inside the notepad. Does it sometimes trigger the desktop when you don't press the Windows key?

Next is physical check. Inspect the Windows Key on your keyboard. Is it sticky? Is it depressed slightly? If it's a mechanical keyboard, try removing the keycap and clean it.

If your keyboard has a "Gaming Mode" or a utility that allows you to disable the Windows key, temporarily do it. If the problem stops, it's most likely your keyboard.

However, if you have an extra keyboard to use, plug it in and test. This is the fastest way to confirm or rule out if the issue is the keyboard.

Let us know the result so we can do next steps with the isolation troubleshooting steps.

    Best Regards,

    RizaP
